Experience the rugged beauty of Western Colorado at the West Elk Challenge Trail Marathon, happening Saturday, October 3, 2026. This point-to-point backcountry race takes you through the heart of the North Fork Valley during peak fall colors. The full 26.2-mile marathon starts on the shores of Crawford State Park, while the 30K (18-mile) option begins near the iconic Needle Rock.

Both courses feature a challenging climb of over 4,000 feet to the 9,762-foot summit of Inter-Ocean Pass before descending through golden aspen stands and oak forests into the town of Paonia. More than a race, this event is a fundraiser where 100% of proceeds fund scholarships for The Nature Connection’s summer camps, helping local kids build confidence in the outdoors. Join us for a day of grit, stunning vistas, and community support!
